Art Gallery

This gem on the south coast of the New Forest National Park is a multi-purpose space featuring art and sculpture created both by a choice of talented local artists and a few from further afield. The Palais offers a range of works for all pockets and welcomes both the discerning collector as well as first time buyers.

What used to be the 1920’s ‘Cow Palace’ as called by the farm workers from a previous age has now been transformed into the Palais des Vaches. From ramshackle old farm buildings, a phoenix has arisen to become a wondrous venue that offers exclusivity, privacy and a stress-free escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Putting the
Art into Party

That’s what Nick de Rothschild, the owner, says. And he’s right. The Palais is truly a party palace, the place to entertain. ‘Gives great party’ if he says so himself. What could be more unique than a magnificent hall with tiled walls – the same tiles as put here one hundred years ago for the milking parlour – and now decorated with pictures.

The gallery has three main interjoining rooms surrounding a courtyard boasting an ancient olive tree and recycled cattle troughs filled with flowers. There is a lawn accessed from the gallery with sculptures where children can set up tepees, and opposite is a wildflower meadow with pathways for wandering and wondering, a place to admire nature. The world famous Exbury Gardens, also created by Nick’s grandfather, are just up the road.

Versatile Venue

A perfect place to celebrate that special occasion, be it a birthday, an anniversary or another celebration. Also great for corporate awaydays, lectures, club get-togethers or just a drinks party with a pop-up restaurant. A large catering kitchen goes with the venue.

Throughout the year there will be many and varied art exhibitions and the gallery space is available for hire by artists or groups.

The central courtyard adds a further dimension for outdoor dining and other entertainments. All this with the extra magic of a sculpture lawn and a stroll round the summer butterfly meadow overlooking the seventeenth century salt works in the marshes by the Beaulieu River, with the Isle of Wight in the distance or, for the historically minded, the remains of a Tudor cannon battery.

Coastal Gallery Lymington

“We are so proud of the gallery and venue, and have long respected the reputation Stewart and Bev have built up at Coastal Gallery in Lymington. It seems a natural fit to join forces. We have great artists, they have great artists.”

Caroline de Rothschild
Palais des vaches

“Collaboration between galleries has developed over the past few years. This is our opportunity to present a diverse range of artists, ceramicists and sculptors to a wider audience. This area of Hampshire has an abundance of exceptional talent, and it is exciting to see local businesses coming together in support of such talent.”
